Weird Bird Update

Last night my kids and I were looking at the bird. We are really conflicted about the bird: We enjoy providing its shelter, but despise removing its defecation. One thing we especially hate about the bird is that it can almost turn its head all the way around. Freaky! The bird took flight and fluttered on the porch. I screamed and ran into the house for fear of birdinmyhair.

I learned something about myself that night. I had no inclination to protect my children. I got myself inside and left my kids to fend for themselves. At least now I know. And my kids know. Hopefully this will teach them to be a little more careful and not to expect me to throw myself in harm’s way for them.

Kristy says: I wish I could be there to slap you and tell you to get a hold of yourself :)

Lisa says: I am really intrigued by this bird. Like, I think about its intentions. And backstory.

Parents these days coddle their kids too much, anyway. I say, let the kids figure out how to stop the birds from pecking their eyes out.

One of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld is when George is attending the birthday party of his girlfriend’s kid and when the oven starts on fire he yells, throws the kids to the ground, and pushes his girlfriend aside to get out. Other than the fact that you are married, have children, a steady job, and you don’t live with your parents, you and George have a lot in common!

  4. Well..maybe you are much taller than your kids and it would have dived for you first?

  5. LOL!

Have you taken a picture of it yet? Now we’re curious?

Oh no! That just made me laugh out loud. I’m sure that if it was something really dangerous you would put the kids first.

I used to think that women screaming and jumping up on chairs when they see a tiny mouse was just ridiculous. Then when I was in college and living in a sublet in Brooklyn I saw my first in-person scurrying across the floor mouse. Guess who found herself standing on the couch screaming? Okay – so now I know.

And your bird? Sounds terrifying. My imagination would definitely run wild with that one.

Sadly I would have done the same thing. I might have even knocked one of them down! :)

You really do need to take a picture. We have all got to see this thing!
