Conference Report

When I was around 14 or 15, one of my Young Women leaders told us how much she looked forward to General Conference and how much she loved it and just couldn’t wait for it. I can remember clearly thinking something along the line of “I know she’s sincere. She really means it, but I just don’t get it. Excited? Really?” And I didn’t get it. I don’t know why, but I always think of this leader around Conference. And now I really look forward to it, too, and I really mean it, and I’m not sure when that changed. I must be a grown-up now. Great for me! Not so great for my kids, though, who have a mom who really wants to listen. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can’t. This conference I heard a lot, so, like with so many other things in life, I’ll take what I can get.

Owen was excited to tell me that while, uh hem, reverently listening to Conference, he has built a replica of the Draper Temple. He was really proud of it and insisted I take a picture. That’s kind of a reverent Sunday activity, right?

I really look forward to conference now too–which makes me feel like a grown up. Resentfully cleaning of the remains of 4 sessions (plus priesthood) with 4 kids (including a toddler) makes me feel like a resentful grown up.

  2. I love it too. And there’s always a post-conference aftermath to clean up, but I feel grateful that we’re somehow able to watch all four sessions with three small children… a miracle in itself.

Looks a lot like the tents some kids built during conference about thirty years ago in the basement of Bob and Shauna Valentine in Lincoln, Nebraska. Must be genetic.
