You might be surprised that ammonia (just the plain, cheap kind that smells bad) dabbed on a mosquito bite takes the itchiness away. I tried this after noticing that it is the active ingredient in the over the counter remedy "After Bite" that is used for insect bites. It really works, although I would be careful to just use a little and not let a child apply it to them self.

Hilarious!
In our house, Desitin is our Tilex (or Windex) of choice. According to my husband salve, as he calls it, will cure everything. At least one of his brothers and his mom feel the same way, so he comes by it honestly, I suppose.
So the running family joke/motto is "Salve saves lives!"

I really enjoyed your post, so I went to your blog and found myself still reading it 15 minutes later. I am a transplant to the South as well. Grew up in So. Cal, now live in NC.

Okay, odd, but still doesn't beat the "superglue" as "perfect sealer for cuts" the boy scouts are always claiming.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and a woman called to spout her claims that Mylanta is a cure all for bug bites and hives. I've been dying to try it ever since. Can anyone else attest to that?

Thanks for the comments :)

Typically, I don't need the permission slip signed in order to post an 'Andrew story' on our blog... However, he was somewhat sensitive about having a rash.

For more of his antics (and mine) visit us at www.aliflegal.blogspot.com

Wow. You held your tongue well. I would have been rolling on the floor laughing! This totally sounds like something that me husband would do. Tilex the closest thing to bleach?! I love getting in to the minds of men and seeing how they really think!
