Why do I love Halloween? Christmas is wonderful. Thanksgiving is good. Fourth of July is fun. My birthday is the best. But Halloween is cool. Because it’s kind of quirky. I was at Tailor Maid today and everyone was totally into getting last minute costume stuff. And they were shopping with straight faces like, “I’m looking for fake piercings and a bolt.” I was there with Maggie to get some more blue hair spray for her Coraline costume. She was a tiny bit bummed that no one at her school party the day before had known who she was. As we put the hair spray on the counter to pay the checker said, “Oh, are you going to be Coraline?” I felt at home. Here’s how the kids’ costumes turned out:
Maggie as Coraline.

Ben as Danger Mouse.
Ellen as a bunny and Sam as a 12 year old who hangs out with his buddies on Halloween and doesn’t get his picture taken.
But let’s be honest here, today didn’t mean as much to me as last night–The Ward Halloween Carnival. Here we are at 9am yesterday heading over to the church to set up. I hope the end result looked effortless but just between you and me, it did take ALL day.
That’s a car full of tissue pom poms and trees for some “spooky woods” on top. It took several trips to transport the pom poms to the church.
But it was worth it.
Does your cultural hall have amber lighting on the stage? If it does you can hang bats in front of it and it will look awesome. You need a tall ladder though. More pics to come! It was so fun.
