I love a good article. . .

It has been a while since I shared some good articles, and so here are the latest:

Do you think that educating girls is the key to peace? I do, too. Have you ever heard someone say it’s such a waste for a woman to go to college if she’s simply going to “just” be a mom? I know, right? Ignorance in action. Nothing boils my blood more, and that’s why this article originally caught my attention. The article is about
Greg Mortenson who has based his life’s work on it by promoting literacy. My favorite quote from the article: “Fighting terrorism … is based in fear,” he said. “Promoting peace is based in hope. The real enemy we have in Africa, Afghanistan or America, the real enemy we all face, is ignorance.” Yes it is!

Have you ever considered how dangerous Visiting Teaching might be in other countries? this article in the Salt Lake Tribune documents an LDS women’s outreach program. It reminds me how much good The Relief Society is doing throughout the world and reminds me of how grateful I am to be a little tiny part of it. Most recently, in Utah, there were “workshops on how to better their families, their communities and their future in a country with 2.5 million orphans and 3 million widows. They were guests of the nonprofit organization F.U.T.U.R.E, which stands for Families United Toward Universal Respect.” Read the emotional account here.

Thanks for sending the links Aunt Cristy!

I read Three Cups of Tea last year and it was one of the most motivational books I read of 2008. I was very inspired to think that one person *can* make a difference! I can’t tell you how many people I’ve recommended this book to! If you liked what the article said, you’ll love the book!

Three Cups of Tea is a wonderful book. It would be great for a book group to read. One person can really make a difference. He also has a children’s book that I read to my children based on his work in building his first school.

I too have read the book and was amazed by it all the way through. Mr. Mortenson is a hero.

Bravo, I believe that women are the civilizing factor in society. It will be the women who will change Afganistan and Iraq into a peaceful society.

As an LDS male I am ever grateful to the Relief Society.

    Good articles, thanks for sharing

I think that the key to world peace is warm showers. Think about everywhere there is persistent war. Are warm showers regularly available? Nope.
