Can Buy Me Love

Last night my friend Hailey came over with a delectable assortment of treats, including possibly the best brownie I’ve ever had in my entire life.  And I don’t mind admitting that I’ve made it a personal quest to perfect the art which is the perfect brownie:  substantial, thick, moist, the right combination of soft and slightly gooey, with the right dark chocolate and chunk taste and ratio, to name a few criteria, you know, off the top of my head.  This brownie, along with popcorn, movie treats, and show tickets was sent to her and her husband as different law firms court them.  Did you all know about this?  Did you know that some jobs actually recruit you out of school?  They fly you places and pay for all your expenses, and as you’re chewing it over, trying to decide who has the most competitive package, they send you something to literally chew on?  As a former teacher, currently employed as a SAHM (and actor on the side), married to a University professor (and actor/director on the side), can you imagine what a blow this is to my (our) ego?  When I think of the interviews and auditions, the preparation, memorization, and sweating that is involved, and I don’t even get a store-bought, prepackaged, dry, bland brownie for my troubles?  Well, it’s beyond humiliating to even think about it.

Rachel says: We lived in student housing and learned this lesson every spring, when graduating seniors in engineering, law or business had their homes packed and professionally moved and humanities/arts graduates were lucky if they could afford to rent their own U-Haul. Brownies is just insult to injury, eh?
